WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
The hypnotherapy session
Generally speaking, during the hypnosis session itself,
the client is invited to relax in an armchair or couch
and is then guided into a state of deep physical and
mental relaxation.
In the hypnotic state
While in hypnosis, the client is still generally aware
of their surroundings and can choose to come out of
hypnosis at any time. A hypnotherapist can not hypnotise
anyone against their will or make an individual act
against their natural inclinations whilst in hypnosis
- the client remains in full control throughout.
After the hypnotherapy session
At the end of the hypnosis session, the client
will be gently returned to the normal waking state.
Most new clients are surprised at how far away the reality
of hypnotherapy is from any prior expectation of 'mind
control', and find the experience deeply relaxing.
There are three main techniques to help bring about
change.
Suggestion Therapy – a traditional
treatment used to help with problems such as smoking,
pre-exam nerves, nail-biting and pain. It has even proved
highly effective for women during pregnancy, helping
them and their baby to have a more pleasurable experience.
- This type of therapy usually requires only a few
sessions to be fully effective.
Analytical Therapy – is used
when problems are deeply rooted in the past. This is
the most effective treatment for anxiety and nervous
disorders. Together we discover what the reason for
the behaviour is, deal with it and finally help you
to move on.
- This method can take up to 10-12 sessions.
Solution-based therapy – is
a modern method that is commonly used to help you achieve
what you want to achieve in life. It helps with problems
linked to lack of confidence and self-esteem and can
treat a whole range of symptoms from stage fright to
minor phobias, such as flying and spiders.
- Change is usually brought about quickly and after
only a few sessions people often consider themselves
‘cured’.
