| PHOBIAS
A fear is an unpleasant reaction
we feel when we are confronted with a real danger.
A phobia is an irrational fear of
an object/situation that causes little or no real danger.
Phobias can be easily identified and include the fear
of spiders, heights, needles, fear of flying, illness
and thunder amongst many others.
Hypnotherapy is recognised as a very successful and
gentle approach to providing a fast and effective relief
for phobias and is recommended by the National Phobic
Society. There are many different types of phobia and
some of the more common ones are listed below.
Simple or Specific Phobias
They can be easily identified and include fear of flying,
spiders, heights, needles and thunder.
Fear of flying / Aerophobia
This phobia affects 1 in 5 people and its affects on
sufferers can vary greatly. It may be anxiety about
a specific portion of a flight such as on take-off or
landing, or manifest itself as a full blown panic attack
just thinking about flying or watching an aircraft.
If your fear of flying is preventing you from taking
or enjoying holidays, affecting your business travel
or work then take action and discover how you can enjoy
travelling.
Social Phobia
These include: social or public situations and is often
expressed as a fear of being centre of attention, behaving
in an embarrassing or humiliating way and can lead to
avoidance of social events, eating out and even public
toilets.
Agoraphobia
This is a complex phobia, usually manifesting itself
as a collection of interlinked phobias, often including
monophobia. The severity of agoraphobia varies enormously
between sufferers from those who are housebound, even
room-bound, to those who can travel specific distances
within a defined boundary.
Monophobia
This is the fear of being alone. Monophobics traditionally
fear being left alone as they worry about having a panic
attack and having to cope alone without their ‘support’
person. It is often associated with agoraphobia and
panic disorder.
Injection Phobia (Trypanophobia)
This phobia is characterised by panic, revulsion and
symptoms of anxiety at the thought of an injection,
let alone the sight of a syringe and needle. Sufferers
may pass out while having an injection due to the intense
anxiety.
Blushing phobia (Erythrophobia)
Sufferers find that their blushing is not controllable,
and is often severe enough to apparently be noticed
by others. |
